Rad Reading- March
- During the month of march I read The Death Cure. I am on page 203. The book is written by James Dashner. It follows the main character Thomas who after the event of the first and second book has more challenges to overcome. In a dystopian sort of world Thomas and his friends have to overcome the choice of keeping their memories of the past before all of the experiments they had undergone. WICKED a company focused on saving the world from the flare from these experiments, says the time for lies are over. Thomas still doesn’t trust them though. So he and his friends choose to not get their memories back. They soon find out secrets that can help them with their journey. They then go to a city where people who are safe from the flare live. They went there to find some answers. They put a pin in their goal to save their friend who left because he got the disease called the flare. People find out that Thomas and his friends are immune and want to take them to get money since WICKED has a reward out for them. Thomas doest know what to expect from this world he’s slowly learning about himself
- I enjoyed this book because of its expanding world and new enemies. From the flare infected humans (cranks) to the deadly trails set by WICKED and just normal everyday people wanting money or peace. The stakes are high giving an exciting read through. As you read you also see more of the dystopian world the characters are learning more and more about with us. Including the “safe” city with uninfected people.
- Newt is one of my favorite characters because he has loyalty for his friendships. A quote to show this is “Well, at least you didn’t bloody roll over and die, Tommy.” This witty response really is a good example of his support and forgiveness by trying to comfort Thomas. He is reminding me of the important things about the situation. That is an admirable trait to have.
- A favorite quote from the book is “Kill me. If you’ve ever been my friend, Kill me.”(pg.196) This is the only sentence in Newt’s letter he gave to Thomas before he went “crazy”. This is my favorite quote because it holds so much emotion. Newt is saying that he wants to be killed since he knows he has the flare and isn’t immune. This holds the loss of hope, desperation and plea of mercy. Which I find very fascinating by the fact all of that was captured in a single sentence.
